Rex Dunombe lay claim to be Australia first computer programmer in modern times 1963 for Macquarie Textiles - Albury NSW, writing in hexadecimal and pin tape.
It was used to work out gearing on textile machines. Maybe there was someone before 1963 but we know of no one programming in business before this date..

Internet broken in West NSW..

Wednesday 29th April 2020

What a windy day in town today top of 60kph wind... When down to check the mail but no mail today I am waiting on some glue from Ebay...

This is the old White Cliffs police station, we have not had a policeman in town for years.. The building is up for rent..

Near the school, that looks like a storm but no rain today we had 3mm last night...

Been asked about playing golf in White Cliffs so I took this today...

The Tee at hole 10, good old green mat they have a comp every Sunday but not now due to the virus...

The Internet is a mess in White Cliffs again... So slow and dropping out so much it a mess about once a week...

I have so items to put on dots but it is hard work the way the internet is today...

You all have fun...

Tuesday 28th April 2020

I am working in the kitchen on that new area I open up a few weeks ago this week I am looking to line the ceiling wit Gyp rock that I have...

Next it will be the back wall with Gyp rock (all lighting in the are is 12v solar lighting)... beats paying for it...

I walk down to the top of the driveway and right at the top "A Golf Ball" seen I am about 1kms from the White Cliffs gold course that must have be a hell of a hit...

They saying rain tonight 1-5mm and 5-10mm tomorrow we will wait and see but looking at the sky they just maybe right... 29c here today and cooling down the next few day...

I seen a local driving a car today, that is a first this week...

Hello to all in Victoria that read Three Dots you all have fun and stay home...

Vicky get better soon...

Tomorrow is another day...

Monday 27th April 2020

Monday and a holiday in some states so we made it a holiday here just in case, first job was to stop a leak on the roof of the hallway all we need now is a rain storm to test it out. Next I fitted a bit of cement sheet to the East wall of the new kitchen on the outside, job done (I hope)... Last job was a trip to the tip and get rid of all the rubbish, better do it today as the weather man saying rain on Tuesday and Wednesday this week...

Looking over the town from home, if it does rain I think you see a lot of green here...

This is on the front of our land in the North East corner may have to clean it up soon...

Beside our place there is a 6m wide "No Man" land we were talking to next door and next year we may do a bit of work between us add an table and chairs..

Maybe a half hour with a Bobcat and make an area for that table. In the center of the picture that is a Opal mine shaft about 4ft deep maybe a place to toss some rocks... The Solar Cells you see in the picture belong to next door..

Not this year, maybe a start this year, just thinking about it...

Just have to wait and see if we get rain tomorrow and the next day...

You all have fun this week... Vicki hope you get better soon...

Sunday 26th April 2020

..
From Bill in Queensland: The before and after pictures of the palm it looks a lot better now. It looks real good.. (It does look good you would not think it was the same back yard)..

From Bernie Howlong:

Easy on the eyes with good greenery, the pic here is of Lake Hume about 10 kilometers before Tallangatta. The lake is down to 12 % where the original Mitta River course can be seen in the tree line as it meanders mid lake. It will need a phenomenon of wet weather for the rest of 2020 to refill Hume. In hedging my bet on extremes this winter with mammoth snows, sleet and much localised river flooding. Lacking that, we will be importing bottled water from China to make our daily cups of Aussie tea.

In White Cliffs:

Outside the White Cliffs Art House that is closed due to the virus.. Hope to reopen soon...

The White Cliffs General Store had a bit of a clean up and the only business in town that is open...

Next to the shop and run by the General Store the town fuel pump... Today it cost $1.719 Lt for unleaded..

Lot of dirt on the new road washed down it the last rain...

Talking about rain we are told rain at the end of this week...

You all have fun this week.....

Saturday 25th April 2020 (ANZAC DAY)
What happen in White Cliffs ANZAC DAY well I will not say, we are in Covid-19 lock-down... We stayed home for the day and went no where today a number of people played the last post at 6am this morning...

What is Anzac Day?
Anzac Day, 25 April, is one of Australia’s most important national occasions. It marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War.

What does ANZAC stand for?
ANZAC stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. The soldiers in those forces quickly became known as Anzac's, and the pride they took in that name endures to this day.

Why is this day special to Australians?
When war broke out in 1914 Australia had been a federated nation for only 13 years, and its government was eager to establish a reputation among the nations of the world. When Britain declared war in August 1914 Australia was automatically placed on the side of the Commonwealth. In 1915 Australian and New Zealand soldiers formed part of the expedition that set out to capture the Gallipoli peninsula in order to open the Dardanelles to the allied navies. The ultimate objective was to capture Constantinople (now Istanbul), the capital of the Ottoman Empire, an ally of Germany.

Not all homes in White Cliffs are under ground so in the CBD are above ground...

Have a four legged friend they can be put here for the night...

Where the creek in town flooded a few weeks ago, the grass has come up and very green as you can see...

We took the little Proton for a drive today Carol was at the wheel ....

ANZAC DAY, you all have fun this weekend....

As for our day I got up at 6am and went outside and worked on a big clean up of the front yard for about three hours almost filling the trailer again... Have a lot of weeds to get rid of...

Friday 24th April 2020

Hot day at home today we had 31c in the shade and far to hot in the sun to do much work....

From Bernie in Howlong

..

White Cliffs over the Opal fields looking to town...

All from Bernie in Howlong, note the picture at left the blue circle that is our place... No wonder when the Flying Doctor takes off they fly right across home...

The Anzac soldier made from wire mesh by a station hand girl in the top end NT is artful.
The camel wagon came from Adelaide some years ago and on the road nearby to white cliffs, the camel developed bad sores on feet. A truck then took the camel back to Adelaide for treatment. It came good.

The last 3 photos are new aerial images I have found of white cliffs. Date is about 4 year ago. Cheers for now. Alls well. Off to bed early 8 pm tonight with the current issue of National Geographic thanks to Vit Butlowski for his generosity in shouting me another year's subscription.

Tomorrow ANZAC DAY a very quite day this year, I am not so sure in White Cliffs....

You all have fun..

Thursday 23rd April 2020

Tuesday 21st April 2020

I had a slack day at home we did a big cleanup inside the underground home I put in a order for water drain hose in Broken Hill we will need to go into town in about two weeks I have a water pond outside from the washing machine and I need to drain it well away from the house. I drain it some 33m and that will keep around the house nice and dry...

Bill in Queensland:
Hi Rex , I got my bike ride in today longest yet 2 hours. It was good  only fell off on a very steep section  which I didn’t quite reach the top of and put my brakes on and next thing I was off the bike over a low  fence doing a backward  fall and roll onto grassed area - didn’t get hurt so that was good.

I took some pics  there were still plenty of people  on beach areas and out enjoying themselves

Some pics of my trip via the duck pond close to us at Alexandra headland .

I rode all the way to very point at Mooloolaba double the distance I’ve done before...

The duck pond as Bill called it...

That's Queensland build them bigger and higher, do like the pond..

Ducks on the way to the water...

Ian and Pauline went for a walk in Yass New South Wales..

Nice old Post Office in Yass, thanks for the picture..

Yass is a town in the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales, Australia in Yass Valley Council. The name appears to have been derived from an Aboriginal word, "Yarrh" (or "Yharr"), said to mean 'running water'.

Yass is located 280 km south-west of Sydney, on the Hume Highway. The Yass River, which is a tributary of the Murrumbidgee River, flows past the town. Yass is 59 km from Canberra; lying at an altitude of 505m.

Yass has an impressive and historic main street, with well-preserved 19th century verandah post pubs (mostly converted to other uses). It is popular with tourists, some from Canberra and others taking a break from the Hume Highway.

The Yass Show is held in March, the Turning Wave Festival in September, and the Yass Arts-and-Crafts Festival in November, along with numerous other festivals and events throughout the year.

Well that's Tuesday and thanks to all that sent pictures and text to Three Dots....

You all have fun....

Monday 20th April 2020

first job today was check the rain water tank there are a lot of Mosquito around and I did not want them in the rain water tank... All good nice and clean and just to make sure I added a new layer of fly screen to the top of the water tank also put Mosquito net on the over flow pipe of the tank...

As I said on Three Dots a few days ago up on the roof I notice a hole above the kitchen so I got up there and fixed it today, job done (it is cement sheet)

While up there I took some pictures this one is looking North West towards the NT

This one looking North East towards South Queensland...

This one to the East and big brick wall that my late friend Carl built...

Where I am working inside the new kitchen the door will go into what will now be the lady new pantry...

The door that leads into the underground home...

We are getting there very slow but this year I have no reason to rush... Will get there soon...

Went for a drive to the tip to off load some rubbish... and the Mosquito are so big at the tip, just unreal (I now carry fly spray in the car...

Again from Turley Hill we went home from the shop via Turley Hill, the old solar power station....

If something is left around town broken down or just dumped Tony (council worker) picks it up and put it on the holding pen.. If you look hard you will see our old broken black Mercedes Benz it is owned by the insurance company they never picked it up...

No art festival in White Cliffs this year....

Dear artists/associates of the White Cliffs Arts Festival Art Show,

Regretfully the 2020 Art Show in August 2020 will not be held due to the COVID19 pandemic.
Maybe this gives you valuable work time to prepare your art for the 2021 Show, which we hope will happen in August 2021. Keep safe,
Regards, Cherryl Fyffe - for the committee of the White Cliffs Underground Arts Festival.

Tuesday 14th April 2020

Well Easter is over for this year 2020, and I don't think we seen anyone at all... Every year at Easter White Cliffs is a out for a meal lots of people in town, not this year... But that's how we had to have it... "Stay at home"...

I am still standing on our land at this point right on top of our home around 28 ft at this point (9m) ... This is where our town water comes from these tanks...

This is also at the top of our land where the Kangaroos Sleep at night I did hear one on the roof the other night hopping up the hill, but still to see one...

Like this picture top of the hill (if you look right of picture you can see our power box) that is about 1m outside our land...

A little bit of green grass on the hill, there is enough rock up here to build some sort of building... At this point we are looking South...

Not an easy picture from about 70m away the odd bird are returning to home...

Picture number three for the day I like this picture I add it to my top shots list....

Welcome to White Cliffs: The outback opal mining town so hot locals live underground to escape the blistering heat and face a 300km trek to the supermarket - but they love the peace and quiet

The lock up at home is still on and we went no where today, again... But if it helps get rid of the Virus in the end and saves a life it be worth it...

Ian cleaning his caravan in New South Wales, yep Ian and Pauline are sitting out the Virus on the road at a caravan park. Ian the van looks nice and clean you did a good job, that's a nice caravan...

As for White Cliffs we are moving the door to a new place in the kitchen and today I rebuilt a door frame the white door... The little (see arrow) is a secret door (don't tell anyone) leads outside ..

What is outside the little door my 12v power plant it is run by solar on the roof above here... I tidy it all up soon, it is all fused so we do not get a fire... All out of the weather and has a heap of air flow..

It take me a few more day to finish the door way, so I be at it tomorrow morning... Today it was 28c here with a blue sky and a lot of wind, no rain...

That was my day... Send me some still pictures for Three Dots, we need them...

You all have fun...

Friday 10th April (Good Friday) 2020

A real slack day, Good Friday but that's how the day went... Had a big day on the phone with local White Cliffs people which I enjoyed... As requested by our PM we stayed home and that's the plain for this weekend...

I walked around and picked up all the rubbish on our place we even found some wine bottles as you can see in the trailer..

Every day it is getting greener and greener this is looking down our driveway...

This is a picture that never worked out I try to picture two white Butterflies I have to practice this picture...

Thursday 9th April 2020

Last night I went out to see and take a picture of the "Pink Moon" at 10pm, 11pm and midnight but no shade of pink to be seen. We had very clear night and had good vision of the white moon but no pink moon...

Had a big clean up in the kitchen today and walked around the yard picking up what I could and toss it in the trailer I go pickup some more rubbish tomorrow...

I still need to get this tree out of the ground far to close to the house it is right at the back of the toilet and maybe why it growen so fast....

If you look hard you can see the green returning to the outback, no more wildlife just one Emu heading for Vicky place today I seen it walk over Tony and Belinda place...

What I removed from the kitchen will be a start for the workshop I am building outside... It will have a saw tooth roof and a earth floor I do not wish to cement this floor...

Easter, not that it feels like Easter we plan just to stay home in the Underground Home this long weekend there is no church service in White Cliffs over Easter... It just not Easter, well that's how I feel....

Write to me tell "Three Dots" what you are doing this Easter ... I love some input for dots...

Well that's today just been working in the morning and having the afternoon off to recover...

Hove fun this Easter....

Wednesday 8th April 2020

What do you say we are all in lock down in town and we have a new person in town well maybe not a person but our first wildlife in two years...

I am sure it asked "am I going to be in news paper", last night we had a noise outside around 3am I went and had a look and seen nothing, this afternoon I walked outside and we had someone drop by to say hello... hope the grandkids like it...

That made my day without the local wild life it is just not the same... Did see wild pigs south of town about ten days ago... And a heap of Goat about 10 km's out of town...

Emu are no trouble they just walk around, the Kangaroo ok but can have a bad temper at times. Hate the goat they just want to eat everything even cardboard ... The wild pig are hated in town and you hear a gun go off early morning, not me I do not own a gun...

The local shop got some stock this morning so we have some milk and fruit and veg news travels and I bet they be out of stock by afternoon...

I sent a letter to Woolworth's on Monday and had no answer to I sent it to state and federal member tomorrow...

Have been buying the hardware I need for home on eBay so I have a few items I need in about two week...

All good here so you all have fun...

Tuesday 7th April 2020

Woolworth, still giving us a hard time but I leave that alone for now.... I have been working hard inside the new kitchen I pulled part of it apart this week ...

We had this crazy plan while we were away over summer so over the last few day I got stuck into it.

That was a long hallway so I took the wall section out in the kitchen and my big storage room out back is going to be taken over by the cook as a walk in pantry... Ummm Ummm....

You can see the kitchen on the right side, I sure made a mess that I fix up...

Well I have to do something while the virus has us locked in at home.... Where I am standing there be a doorway ....

I feel it will look a lot better than before ....

We got a Crome Cast at home hooked to the television we now have more channels and Net flicks well there we are and what I been doing ....

Looking North to Queensland.... Taken out front tonight....

That's it for now so you all have fun...

Monday 6th April 2020

Woolworth is giving the people of White Cliffs a very hard time we drive into Broken Hill as we have done for years and buy food... Sometimes well over $1000.00 worth as we may only make the 600km round trip every eight to ten weeks, some of us buy big lots of frozen food, meat and a car full of dry food... They say you can only buy two frozen food items and they are out of stock of around 25% of dry goods...

We try to buy an $80.00 Woolworth box but we are told "We do not ship to your area", we have a Post Delivery three times a week the food box is to help older people well I am over 70yrs old and September last year had a stroke...

Been told we can shop every day if we like, yes drive 600kms a day.. I know it is our choice to live here but why are Coles and Woolworth's giving us such a hard time...

You all have fun I try do a better job on Three Dots tomorrow night...

Sunday 5th April 2020

Sat home for 99% of the time today and seen no one I did drive down to the tip and off load some rubbish bags... The town a bit of a mess and needs a big clean up....

The came down the hill with it came red mud as you can see in the picture it just made a big mess in a number of places...

More mud off the hill pushed across the road we need a big broom to fix this lot..

The local creek still has a lot of water but no longer flowing it will dry out in a few week...

Then it was back home and sit out the Virus "Do the right thing - Stay home" ....

I went back working in the kitchen (new) today for the first time this year....

From Ian in Yass NSW...

...

(Pauline I left your name off) Thanks Ian)....

You all have a great week and stay inside from what I read we are going to beat this....

Saturday 4th April 2020

What a night we had rain then more rain so people said 20mm some recorded 50mm at one stage we had thunder rolling on for ten minutes and a great lights show...

The bottom of our driveway what a mess that the main road around the hill we live on. O' my what a mess...

Taken very late at night using night vision this is the sports ground a lot of water taken from our front door...

Same area but a better view of the creek in the back, the normal amount of water in the creek is nil...

Today the sun up and a blue sky as you can see in this picture...

Above our underground home no water to be seen... not a drop...

We had no water in the Underground home itself but I have about six leaks to fix in the new hall way and new kitchen area... Well we are all told to stay at home so now I have some work to do...

The town very quite most people are doing the right thing and staying at home ... Vicky how life around the side of the hill??..

You all have fun...

.

Friday 3rd April 2020

Fallen off the same bank we have had a few rocks fall, nothing special just the odd rock falling (no harm)...

Like all of us we cannot go anywhere due to the Virus so we both stay home... The police are making a visit to town just to make sure we have no party's this weekend....

The Weekend is the end of Daylight Saving... Still cleaning up big time inside the Underground House we are still cleaning up it take another week...

You all have a great weekend ... My new glasses came today they take some time to get use to...

Thursday 2nd April 2020

A big day cleaning up inside the underground home it will take a few day as we work on it a room at a time you cannot work outside the fly's are unreal really bad we need some really cold weather ....

We had some rain now the weeds as you can see here...

Our driveway is a bit of a mess right now I have to get down there with a rake...

Here the water channel from the top of the hill the water just pushed the rocks to the side and over the driveway making a mess..

The salt bush looked dead for months then we had rain and it all come to life...

Looking up the driveway the salt bush is green and the weeds are coming out ...

From Bill in Queensland new garden...
I have planted zucchini, Capsicums, Beetroot, Rocket .. some in garden some in large pot.. Buck Choi, Potatoes, Purple carrots in a large pot .

I now have make a netting cover for it as bush turkey can just drop in and start digging up garden looking for worms . There was one in another garden bed recently I had lot of grass clippings on that garden bed and bush turkey made a hell of a mess of that but I didn’t see it . They can fly in early morning and take off again five min's later. Big nuisances .

Bill, think you need a big stick....

From Kylie Albury...

102 years later now....

Thanks for that it's all the same as you said... But we now have TV....

From Woolworth's and Australia Post...

Dear Rex,

Although the situation in Australia is evolving rapidly, at Australia Post we’re determined to do everything we can to keep delivering for our communities.

Post offices are still open for business across the country providing sending and receiving, retail and banking services. Any changes due to the ongoing impacts are available in our important updates section on our website.

Our post offices have implemented social distancing protocols to increase your safety, and other measures are coming soon to improve hygiene and reduce risks.

Our army of posties and drivers are still out across Australia trying their hardest to deliver parcels first time and providing contactless doorstep delivery. We know you love to greet them and have a chat, but to help us all, please remember we need to do this from a distance now.

To make things easier, many of our customers have also signed up for our free 24/7 Parcel Lockers which can be found at 400 locations across the country. By creating a My Post account, you’ll get this flexibility and other services. Please click here for more details.

To help the most vulnerable in our community, we’ve partnered with Woolworth's to deliver "Woolworth's Basics Box" of groceries across the country. Each box contains meals, snacks and essential items for those in genuine need and will give them a helping hand in these difficult times. Please click here or visit woolworths.com.au/shop/page/woolworths-basics-box for more information.

We’ve also launched our Pharmacy Home Delivery Service to support vulnerable members of the community and those in self-isolation, so they can have ongoing access to essential medications. Pharmacies can offer free delivery on prescriptions to their customers so speak to your pharmacy to see if you or a family member qualifies for this service.

Along with the other essential services operating at this critical time, we’re proud to be delivering for Australia.

Stay safe,

Your team at Australia Post.

From Rex

I am going to give this a go and I let you know how I get on...

You all have fun...
